Take Action!

The Fawcett society are asking that people take action to ensure that black and minority ethnic women are more fairly represented in formal politics. They say

“At the current pace of change, it will be more than three centuries before the seats of Parliament reflect Britain’s population of ethnic minority women”

“On 11 June 1987 Diane Abbott became the first Black woman MP to be elected to Parliament. Twenty years later, there are now two Black women MPs out of a possible 646 – just 0.3%. Only three in total have ever been elected, and there has never been an Asian woman MP…”

Take action by asking your MP to support the Early Day Motion 1555 which will ask the government to look again at access to and participation in politics.

To find out more go to The Fawcett Society.

40 years after the Abortion Act came into being, prominent religious leaders and members of the British parliament are threatening to undermine these rights. Take action by going to abortion rights and writing to your MP.
